Fuerteventura Island
The semi-desert island of Fuerteventura lies approximately 100 km off the coast of Africa (near the border of Morocco and western Sahara).
It is perhaps most famous for its beaches, with over 50 km of stunning white and golden sand, but Fuerteventura also offers much more.
Visit the interior of the island and you will discover large plains, lavascapes and volcanic mountains, protected treasures such as the natural monument of Malpais de la Arena, a location of great scientific interest, formed by a volcano.
The rural parks have a great variety of fauna and are a great showcase of this protected paradise that is Fuerteventura.
Despite tourism being a relatively recent phenomenon, there is a well developed infrastructure with golf courses, a zoo and a water park, but if you fancy something a bit more active, the island also offers many water sports, big game fishing and diving, or boat trips which can take you to the neighbouring islet of Lobos.
But, if all you are looking for is to relax and take it easy, you have those never ending stretches of sandy beaches where, even in peak season, you will find the perfect secluded spot.
